horrow films goal is to hit its audiences most primal fears.
horror films deal with the viewers worst nightmare and these differ all around the world due how everything is percieved at diffrenert degrees of terror. we saw examples of how in japan and america ghoasts are considered very scary, but in diffreernt ways, whereas in austrailia the outback is considered unknown and scary
themes of typical horror film:
gore
demons
zombies
ghoasts
vampires

also horror films also use: sound, angle and light in very specific ways to convince the veiwer that the movie is horrifying.

today in class 26th

Today in class we focused mainly on the development in movies. Movies transitioned from 1900 - 1930's from short black and white silent movies into full length, color and sound embedded blockbusters.

movies had a tough time competing with the television industry when found came into play, but held up their own and recreated itself with a new generation of schooled "artists" who envisioned a new era of movie and wanted to help create a new light for the film industry

I enjoyed watching the simple short video clip of THE GREAT ROBBERY!! Filmed in 1918. It was a great contrast to everything that I see in movies now a days and it really emphasized how far movie has come in such a short period of time.

this advertisment is one of hong kongs most famous and effective advertisment campains. i believe that this advertisment may not be as effective in america as it is too simplistic and i believe that american advertisment campains tend to have a little more detail involved. ultimately i like this campain but i dont think it would be recieved well by consumers in america.

class on june 25th

Today in class we looked closely at how different shots were used in movies.
we looked at many examples in many different movies that came at different time periods
I especially loved learning how to set up a film set.
I was in charge of helping to set up the audio and although it did not work properly, i found it interesting to learn that the microphones are usually hand held!!

CLASS ON THE 22ND OF JUNE

on the 22nd of June our class we looked deeper into the conflict between Katy perry and sesame street after the negative response to the episode that was suppose to air on new years eve. my group looked into the role of CBS in the story and how they tried to make the story bigger than it really was.
the things we tried analyzing were the potential: headline, lede, response and position that they would take as the people who broke the story.
in this exercise we emphasised the parents TRUST that we let down as we didn't want to take either side.

Photo

Taking photos from different angles and distances create different feelings for the viewer to interpret as they can only see so much for the different view point.
by showing different emotions that the object is displaying at different depths the artist is able to shoot similar shots with very different meanings

June 20th.. today in class

Today in class we focused on documentaries, especially on how they have evolved over time and how this has changed the style of journalism as a whole. i was particularly interested with the documentary clip from super sized me. i thought it was extremely powerful how the  narrator of the documentary is actually taking part in his own documentary as is willing to put his own health at risk to prove his point. i found this documenting style very engaging.

NIKE ADVERTISMENTS

Nike does an incredible job of advertising through simple messages which are motivating and inspiring. these simple slogans convince the customers to buy Nike products with hope to change their own lives in positive ways. this is a very effective technique because people are always moved through inspirational messages to get up and make a change in their own lives. also i found it interesting how Nike targets all social demographics; the lower and seemingly the upper and middle class. personally Nike advertisements are incredibly effective in my personal opinion, i am drawn in by the interesting pictures and motivational slogans that catch my eye especially as an athlete.

today in class.. June 19th 2012

Today in class we focused mainly on journalism and how the industry has fluctuated over time due to other media forms that spread similar news which become popular or even more accessible for each changing generation. we focused in on many great journalists such as Edward R Murrow's red scare piece which we determined is very different from journalists work now a days. I felt that i was given some great specific advice on some specific things every journalist must know.
1. TO LISTEN
2. TO THINK.. WHICH DIRECTION ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE?
3. TO WRITE
4. TO TELL A STORY

fun fact ...1704: boston first news letter ever

Life as an International Student at Boston University

Life as an International Student at Boston University

For international student José, Boston is extremely accommodating and provides experiences that are foreign to him. Boston University is open to internationals which has enabled José to learn from his newfound experiences, and the community can also learn from him.

José, a student from Spain, has come to Boston University to study english for six months. He is hoping to secure a law degree, and learning english is crucial for this. José studies about five hours a day, and he is also able to explore the culture of America outside of his studies.

Life as a BU student allows for easy access to the city. “The trains and bus system are easy and effective. I am able to travel into Newbury Street to grab a bite to eat,” says José.

BU is also very accommodating for international visitors. “My family is able to stay at the Commonwealth Hotel which is right down the street,” comments José. According to the bellman from the Commonwealth Hotel, they receive many visitors from all over the world.

“We get visitors coming from as far as Japan,” says the bellman. “ I enjoy talking to all the visitors, and it is especially interesting to come across a different language and culture of a visitor. I have to learn different customs.”

José also finds time to do the activities that every local BU student would do. He enjoys going to the cinema, the nightclubs, and Harvard Square. But José finds that there are some differences from his home in Spain to his new life on campus at BU. José especially noted, “The drinking age in Spain is 18, so it was an adjustment to come to America where the drinking age was 21.”

Not only is the drinking age different, but the food has taken some getting used to as well. Local food truck, Clover, receives about 175 customers a day. Their bestseller is the chickpea fritter, which differs from José’s usual meals. However, José says, “Although it is different from what I am used to, I am enjoying trying the different cuisines.”

When asking José if he had experienced any unusual experiences, he noted one very prominent event. “I was at a house party, and my friends and I started to dance in a distinguished spanish style, and we started to get some weird looks. We later had to explain that that was how we danced at home.”

Even though life in Boston is different from his life in Spain, Boston is able to provide José with a new, enjoyable, and beneficial experience. BU has given José many great opportunities that will inevitably help him with his future career prospect to become a lawyer back home. And BU benefits in that has a diverse community where everyone can learn from each other’s different lifestyles.

emotions - overcoming challenge

today- June 18th was the first day of mass comm at BU
we discussed what we believed was the correct definition for mass communication and how mass communication effects every aspect of life. we also decided how mass comm is used in persuading the masses and shaping peoples opinions.
we did this through watching some interesting clips on the Internet and talking in groups in the class.
